Michèle Brill-Edwards Named Senior Fellow at Centre for Free Expression

Michèle Brill-Edwards has been appointed a senior fellow at the Centre for Free Expression (CFE) at Toronto Metropolitan University. Dr. Brill-Edwards is a pediatrician and clinical pharmacologist and a prominent Canadian whistleblower.

“Michèle Brill-Edwards put her career as a senior scientist at Health Canada at risk when she spoke out publicly against the undue hidden influence of the pharmaceutical industry on the Canadian drug approval process and the resulting violations of the Food and Drugs Act endangering Canadian lives,” said James L. Turk, Director of the CFE. “As one of Canada’s most prominent and important whistleblowers, she will play a more central role in guiding CFE’s multi-faceted policy work and advocacy to support whistleblowers.”

Dr. Brill-Edwards received her M.D. at the University of Toronto and completed her pediatrics residency, with a fellowship in clinical pharmacology, at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. In addition to her work at Health Canda, she has served as a member of the Division of Emergency Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO).

The Centre for Free Expression at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) is a hub for public education, research and advocacy on free expression and the public’s right to know. Its work is undertaken in collaboration with academic and community-based organizations across Canada and internationally.
