News Reports and Commentary Selected by Franklin Carter of the Book and Periodical Council’s Freedom of Expression Committee

B’nai Brith Canada, a Jewish organization, has asked the Canada Revenue Agency to revoke the charitable status of the Islamic Society of York Region (ISYR) in Ontario. The ISYR is headed by Zafar Bangash.

B’nai Brith Canada objects to the content of Crescent International: Newsmagazine of the Islamic Movement. It is a publication of the Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought (ICIT). Mr. Bangash is the director of the ICIT and a contributor to the magazine.

B’nai Brith Canada has also notified the police in York Region about Crescent International.
