Shawn Mitchell

Shawn Mitchell, is the acting Director of Collections and Membership Services at Toronto Public Library, overseeing the collection development and management of the Library’s physical and digital collections and the policies and procedures guiding Library membership. He is a member of the Canadian Urban Libraries Council Digital Task Group who advocates for fair e-Book & e-Audiobook lending for public libraries. He is also responsible for supporting the Toronto Public Library’s commitment to intellectual freedom. 

Shawn recently led the development of the Library’s Strategic Plan (2020-2024) that will shape and guide their work over the next five years. The new Plan places Torontonians at the centre, with the ambition of building more resilience, success and well-being for our city and its residents.

Spending most of his career as a public servant, Shawn has also worked at both the federal and provincial levels of government in a number of social policy areas with a focus in strategic planning, policy, data analytics and research.
