Neil McLaughlin

Neil McLaughlin is Professor of Sociology at McMaster University specializing in the sociology of intellectuals, knowledge, and ideas, including conspiracy theories. Born in Glasgow Scotland with Irish roots on the Clydeside, McLaughlin grew up in Two Mountains, Quebec, and went to university on a soccer scholarship at Cleveland State University where he became an intellectual reading in the Cleveland public library and in a terrific (now defunct) interdisciplinary cluster college called "First College." He did his PhD at the Graduate Center of the City University and was educated around the circles of intellectuals at Dissent magazine and the Democratic Socialists of America. He is currently writing about George Soros and also (with Iga Mergler)  about woman public intellectuals in Canada.
