Mariette Pilon

Mariette Pilon is a lawyer, member of the Quebec Bar since 1975, who throughout her career has been representing employees and unions both in private practice and as in-house legal counsel. Through her litigation work and her participation as a lecturer in union education workshops she has been involved in debates concerning privacy rights in the workplace, surveillance, collection of data by providers of services, use of wearable devices, the role of data brokers, and monetisation of employee data. She has done the work required to understand the nature of the multiple types of contracts governing applications and connected devices, and their impact on users’ rights.

She is currently working on issues related to the impact of digital technologies in the workplace, the collection of various types of data through sensors and wearable devices, and the use of collected data by different parties. She follows very closely the debate concerning corporate codes of conduct, ethics committees, and governance and oversight of data by internal boards and tribunals.
