Amélie Perron joins the Centre for Free Expression Whistleblowing Initiatives Steering Committee

University of Ottawa professor of nursing and whistleblowing researcher, Amélie Perron is joining the Centre for Free Expression Whistleblowing Initiatives Steering Committee, the body that guides all aspects of the Centre’s work on whistleblowing issues.

“Amélie is at the forefront of research on the organizational factors that affect nurses’ ability to speak up about unsafe, reprehensible or illegal events that occur in the health care sector,” said James L. Turk, director of the Center. “She will be an important contributor to the Centre’s work on whistleblowing.”

She has published widely on sociopolitical and discursive structures shaping nurses’ and patients’ agency in healthcare environments; the ethics and politics of care (particularly in sensitive or restricted environments), power dynamics in healthcare, and organizational epistemology. Her clinical nursing practice is grounded in institutional and community mental health and crisis intervention with marginalized and vulnerable populations.

Amélie is co-founder and co-president of the Nursing Observatory which is dedicated to critical analyses of issues impacting the nursing workforce.
